Surface Design and Performance of Additively Manufactured PEEK – Sliding Bearing Applications

The friction test of 3D printed PEEK is conducted to assess its abrasion resistance. The sample is characterized pre and post-test. The parameters of 3D printing significantly influence the surface topography and mechanical properties, thereby affecting its performance across various applications.

Bearings used in electric motors undergo combined electrical and mechanical loading which makes them susceptible to premature failure. Electrical loading causes increased localized temperatures due to joule heating. Temperature rise is predicted using numerical analysis.

Engineering the Surfaces of Natural Fibres for Value Added Applications

This research is integral to the design and development of advanced composite materials based on natural fibers. The aim is to characterize the mechanical and tribological properties of natural fibers, particularly coir, under various controlled conditions. This will facilitate the prediction of the performance of these advanced composites in their respective applications.
